Operating for over fourty years, Govindas, a not for profit enterprise, has cemented itself in Sydney’s competitive dining scene & is widely regarded by the locals as a Sydney Institution. As one of the city's first plant based restaurants we pride ourselves on offering an ethical and unique dining experience.

Helmed by famous chef Karana Krishna Das for over twenty five years, he creates an impressive range of vegan and vegetarian dishes with particular standouts like coriander channa dahl and crispy deep fried cauliflower pakoras topped with chilli chutney.

Embrace contemporary informal dining in the heart of Darlinghurst. Feast on our extensive international buffet starting with the dahl soup, share a plate of pakoras and potato wedges and then get ready for the main course. Choose from an array of salads, baked penne pasta, sheperds pie, kofta balls in a house made tomato sauce or lightly spiced vegetable curries to name a few.  Remember you can always go back for more of your favourites. Govindas offers a large selection of global cuisine and although we do offer several Indian style preparations as a part of our international mix we are not an Indian restaurant per se and our "Indian style"dishes are very lightly spiced and not spicy hot.

Serves delicious wholesome vegan and vegetarian food, in a cozy atmosphere. The channa dal with cilantro was amazing! I'm coming back soon to experience the cinema as well - booked Wuthering Heights!

I went to see Marty Supreme with my partner. Somehow had the place to ourselves and they only started the film once we arrived and got cosy laying on the cushions. Great lighting and amazing souns. Possibly the most comfortable cinema experience of my life.

I've eaten here plenty of times and it has never disappointed. The food is fresh and always tastes like it is cooked mindfully (and with love). I love the cauliflower bites ☺️☺️ It's buffet all you can eat style and you can get a movie deal and watch a film upstairs on beds. There's also kirtan sessions downstairs you might be able to link up with dinner. I love this place.

Really nice and casual place for dinner. It starts with a warm welcome from the ladies and continues with delicious vegetarian food. It’s an all-you-can-eat venue at a fair price. I was surprised to see some reviews complaining about ‘not many options’ — really? The selection is more than enough, and the food is tasty and well prepared. We didn’t get a chance to watch a movie this time, but we can’t wait to go back and enjoy the full experience.

Great food and ambience. Lots of options for vegetarians. The cauliflower pakora is simply the best. Clean venue. Friendly staff. Dine on the balcony if possible because the interior can get warm and noisy. The cinema hall has great reclining couches with lots of pillows but it can get frigid so bring a blanket or jacket! Great for date nights!
