Had the most amazing meal here last weekend with the kids! If you’re looking for authentic Karnataka food or if you just want delicious south indian flavours, this place is an absolute gem. The idlis were unbelievably soft, and the fact that they cook with ghee just took everything one level up! The chutney and sambhar were completely mouth-watering — honestly the kind of food that makes you slow down and savour every bite. The whole place had such a buzzing, welcoming atmosphere. We went with big appetites but still couldn’t try everything on the menu, so we’ll definitely be back soon (the bonda is next on our list!). And I have to mention the coffee — absolutely to die for.

The place offers variety of Bangalore style Idly Dosa Vada and filter coffee. They have very yummy Vada, dosa. The chutney was yummy and spicy. We visited here from Sydney, we tried Holi bajji, idly Vada dip, masala puri, Mysore Masala dosa, ghee roast and set dosa. Everything was really yum, filter coffee was the best. The owners Nagendra and Shruthi were very kind enough to speak and share there story and even heard our experience. The staff and the service was also pretty good. Overall a must visit for people who love Bangalore style food.

Had such a lovely experience at Melbourne Tiffin Room! The whole place gave proper Bengaluru vibes — from the ambience to the flavours. Tried the mallige idli, neer dosa and golibaje, and everything was fresh, soft and full of authentic taste. The mallige idli was super fluffy, neer dosa was light and perfect, and the golibaje were crispy outside and soft inside. Service was friendly and quick too. Definitely a great spot for South Indian comfort food in Melbourne. Will be coming back again!

Melbourne Tiffin Room is a charming, family-run, boutique-style restaurant that offers a true slice of Karnataka in the western suburb of Melbourne. Their boutique philosophy shines through in a carefully curated menu, thoughtfully choosing the best offerings from Bengaluru, Udupi (coastal Karnataka/Mangaluru region), and North Karnataka - focusing on authenticity, balance, and quality rather than an overwhelming spread. We ordered the Jolada Rotti Oota, Podi Thatte Idly, Idli and Vada, and Filter Kaapi, and every dish was exceptional. The food was clean, fresh, and served piping hot, with flavours absolutely nailed. Everything was delicious, wholesome, and sumptuous, especially the comforting Jolada Rotti Oota that truly represents North Karnataka cuisine. The hospitality was warm, genuine, and reflective of a family-run establishment that clearly takes pride in what they serve. The ambience instantly transports you to Karnataka, with popular Kannada numbers playing in the background and a strong Bengaluru–Mangaluru vibe. The premises are spotless and very well maintained. A thoughtfully executed boutique dining experience and a must-visit for anyone craving authentic Karnataka flavours. We will definitely return again to savour the lipsmackingly delicious food.

As a proud Kannadiga living in Melbourne, finding food that truly tastes like home is rare but Melbourne Tiffin Room in Laverton absolutely blew me away. This is hands down the most authentic Karnataka-style food I’ve had in the city. Their jowar rotti meals with two curries, podi, yogurt and salad were simple, soulful and full of that comforting “home kitchen” flavour. The street‑style masala puri tasted exactly like the ones you get back in Karnataka, full of nostalgia and spice. The set dosa was soft and fluffy, the Mangalore buns came out steaming hot, and the chocolate dosa was such a hit with my kid that we actually returned the next day just for that! The Mysore masala dosa was perfectly crispy, the vadas were spot‑on, and the special open butter masala dosa was a standout. And the Chikmagalur kaapi… strong, fragrant, and honestly the highlight of the meal. But beyond the food, what truly makes this place special is the warmth of the people. The service is kind, genuine and makes you feel like you’ve walked into someone’s home rather than a restaurant. If you’re in Melbourne and craving real Karnataka flavours, MTR Laverton is a must‑visit. It doesn’t just taste like home, it feels like home.
